Roy E. Muir

Senior Consultant & Co-leader,
Higher Education Practice Group

Education: Graceland College, B.A.
Residence: Ann Arbor, MI

Professional Experience

Roy joined Marts & Lundy in 1998 with over thirty years experience in higher education fund development. Roy served as associate director of development at Washington University in St. Louis, then as director of development at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., before joining the staff at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1976. As the associate vice president at Michigan, Roy was responsible for planning, managing, and directing the highly successful “Campaign for Michigan” – the first public university campaign with a goal of $1 billion. The campaign concluded in 1997 with $1.4 billion raised.

With Marts & Lundy, Roy has served a wide range of higher education clients in program assessments, as well as campaign planning and guidance. He has specialized in assisting public universities with both mature and emerging programs in philanthropy. He believes deeply that all educational institutions—public and private—have still undeveloped potential for private support, and he finds great pleasure in assisting them to achieve that potential.

Roy is a member of the Board of Trustees of Fisher College in Boston, has served on a number of leadership forums for CASE, and as a member of the Marts & Lundy Board of Directors from 2000 through 2004. He has also served on the Boards of the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum, Peace Neighborhood Center, the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, and the Ann Arbor School for the Performing Arts.
