Phil joined the firm in 2011 with over 20 years of advancement experience. He is a welcome addition to both our Health Sciences and our Higher Education practice groups.  Most recently, he served three years as the Executive Vice President for Development at the Lance Armstrong Foundation/LIVESTRONG.  During his tenure at the Foundation he created the first comprehensive development plan, built the first major gifts team, and helped to develop new licensing and corporate partner programs (which generated over $20 million in guaranteed revenue).

No stranger to academic advancement work, Phil has served as:

• Vice President for Development, Woodruff Health Sciences Center of Emory University (2004 – 2008) and as Associate Dean for Development for the School of Medicine (1999 – 2004)
• Director of Development & Alumni Affairs, University of Florida Warrington College of Business (1996 – 1999)
• Director of Major Gifts at George Washington University School of Business and Public Management (1993 – 1996) and as Associate Director of Development (1992 – 1993)
• Executive Director of the National Alumni Association/Director of Alumni & Parent Relations at The University of Tampa (1989 – 1992)

A sampling of his professional and volunteer activities includes serving as a board member for the Atlanta YouthPride, The University of Tampa, The University of Tampa National Alumni Association, and the Alliance to Improve Emory Village.  Phil has also served as the South Regional Chair for the Assn. of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Group on Institutional Advancement and on the Tampa Bay Super Bowl XXV Coordinating Committee. 

An experienced presenter at industry conferences, Phil’s topics have included: Preparing for a Comprehensive Campaign, Metrics for Performance; Creating & Implementing Development Officer Performance Standards; Faculty and Development Partnerships in Grateful Patient Fundraising; and Maximizing Development Potential in a De-centralized Environment, to mention just a few.
